Of course, a radical new concept like Pro Mode requires radical new hardware, and the Rock Band 3 Fender Mustang Pro Guitar could certainly be considered that.
The Fender Mustang Pro Guitar is nearly as large as a fully functional, full-size guitar, and features six strings mounted to the base of the guitar and a 17 fret fretboard with six buttons each, coming to a grand total of 102 note buttons.
For one, the strings and fret buttons are all the same size (or gauge, in guitarist speak), which is notably different from a guitar, whose strings descend from a thicker top string to a thin bottom string. The strings are also notably stiffer than a real guitar, and seemingly less resilient.
he method by which the strings are mounted to the guitar, the string box, is the most vulnerable element of the design, as the strings feel pretty fragile and seem like they could easily broken or unhinged. While the guitar overlooks unintentional vibrations, firm strumming and picking are accurately detected with 1:1 accuracy.
Players can strum or pick the strings with their fingers; though playing with a guitar pick generally yields better results.
