Discount Guitars - How Much Should You Spend on Your First
Guitar
When buying a guitar, like anything else, you get what you pay for. When buying a guitar, buy something cheap, but easy to play. The best electric guitar for a beginner is the Fender Squire. This is a cheap guitar that is very easy to play, and it looks and sounds great. If you want to purchase an acoustic guitar, an inexpensive Yamaha will do just fine.
Although a pawn shop is a good place to pick up an amp, I would not recommend buying a guitar from one. You do not have to buy an effects pedal right away.

What's the difference between discount guitars and retail ones? Good deals can be had through eBay with patience and careful bidding. Here are some points to consider when searching for those great guitar deals.
1. Contact the seller to reaffirm that the item is in good working condition. Probe for answers using the 1 to 10 scale, such as: Mr. seller, on a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the mechanical condition of your guitar.
2. Carefully consider the shipping cost and insurance cost. Many sellers add handling fee's into their ship cost.
3. Understand that "free" shipping usually isn't free. So again, take everything into consideration to determine if you're truly getting your guitars discount or not.
4. Consider using eBay's automatic bid system. You determine what the most you want to bid is and eBay automatically bids for you whenever someone outbids you. So if the the highest bid doesn't reach your highest bid cutoff, you'll only pay that amount, not your maximum bid amount.
Flea markets, garage sales, consignment shops, pawn shops, classifieds and bulletin boards are other places to find guitar deals.
