The amp I purchased was model new however I received them to decrease the value by bi--hin' for awhile. The amp has implausible cleans. However the distortion is de facto solely good for blues and does not do this too properly either. Fortunately I mainly play the blues in order that's why I purchased this amp. If you want to play metal or something with heavier distortion you definetly want a pedal. I have a DS-1 however that doesn't throw out quite as a lot distortion as I would like so I'd recommend a tube screamer for blues arduous rock, or a metal pedal for steel (your preference). It has 3 channels one labeled clear and the others are drive and more drive. With technical investigation though I found it is really just one channel and the drive and extra drive capabilities simply drive preamp tubes loud sufficient to distort (don't be concerned the master quantity brings down the quantity so you don't blow out the home).
The downfall of that is that their is only one equalizer for all three channels and you may't switch from a bassy sound to a trebly distort with no altering the equalizer or utilizing a pedal (buy one!) It has an effects loop which you have to for all you pedals. I solely wish this amp had better distortion that may make it perfect. The reverb is a little bit over the top past 7 (all of the knobs go to 12). Turning it past this and it becomes undesirable to play with (imo). At 7 although it may well simulate the slap again echo on Jimi Hendrix's Crimson House (this amp nails that tone almost excellent).
I take advantage of this amp all over the place, in my room and on stage. The clean tone breaks up around three however thats loud enough for most gigs actually(and with some mods you may give it extra headroom). It may be too loud for room apply at about half of a quantity incriment. Although it goes up to twelve it isn't all that tremendously loud. 7 and twelve are almost the same. Don't worry it is still a lot loud. This amp is all tube and has 4 ten inch speakers wich give it nice sound quality. But for even higher sound you may swap in some new tubes and speakers (you will want to re-bias in the event you change tubes).
Sound: I play a Strat with single coils and it gives off a classic blues sound. Their are higher sounding amps however not for the value I paid. It goes with my favorite styles blues and rock. But I also play excessive achieve metal and punk (Slayer, Leftover Crack) and it doesn't do those in any respect with out a pedal (do I even have to say it?) It may be pretty noisy at excessive positive aspects however that comes extra from my guitar (the piece of s--t). It can make any model of blues by itself and with a couple of pedals you will get anything. Be warned: this amp could be very bass heavy (which is usually a good thing). The amp distorts at three but it surely's a pleasant bluesy distort. This is sufficient though considering 2 hurts my ears. Plus with some modes (simply changing the tubes is one) you can carry up your headroom drastically (louder clean tone earlier than it distorts). Unfortunately the distortion purrs as an alternative of roars. (buy the f--king pedal already!) I give this a five primarily based on the clean tone not the distortion
