Fender Bassman Questions:
HaloMaster
I have heard that some of the early fender bassman are really great amps. I am interested in picking one up. What years are the best? I see some that are from the 70's that are called the bassman 100 or 50 or something. Are these the same as the late 60's blackface bassman. Tell me what years are the best???

1959 Bassman 4X10 is legendary. I got to play one recently and was absolutely astounded. Big Bucks. $3-10K depending on condition/originality. Blackface Bassmans are fairly inexpensive and sound great.
Silverfaces are cheap.

but the black and silverfaced units are excellent and cheap. It all depends on what he's looking for. Stay away from the Bassman 100s unless you're looking for a very clean sounding amp. Any of the others can be modified to sound great. Most of them will need cap jobs and a tuneup (figure $200 by a professional tech) unless this has already been done. Even with the added cost, these are still a bargain in a handwired amp that will appreciate in value.
